Just beyond the toll house of San Martin Texmelucan, one can take a paved side road (Mexico 119) northeast to Tlaxcala and then on to Puebla. It is 15 miles from the turnoff to Tlaxcala and another 19 If you continue by this route to Puebla. The area around Tlaxcala and nearby Santa Ana Chiautempan is one of Mexico’s most important wool centers. Top quality tweeds, sarapes and rugs are sold here and in San Martin Texmelucan and Huegotzingo and also at a new “easy off, easy on” government sponsored market along the toll road at Rio Frio.
